Anna Osterberg

Anna was born and raised on Staten Island NY to immigrant parents.  After she graduated from Curtis High School with a Commercial Diploma, she started her career as a Secretary and Administrative Assistant in the Wall Street area.  She was primarily employed by Lehman Brothers in the Investment Banking Department.   She married John Osterberg later in life and was blessed with a stepson and four grandsons.

Anna is now involved in her church as a Sunday School teacher, office work and the Women's Ministries.  She enjoys working on crafts such as painting, sewing, gardening, and going to concerts.  In addition, she also attends continuing education classes whenever possible.

Upon retiring to Myrtle Beach in 2004, her first involvement with tutoring was at Ocean Bay Elementary School.  She had responded to a newspaper ad for volunteers for a reading program at the school.  Later on, when an adult asked her for help with reading and speaking English, she called the Literacy Council for guidance and attended the ESL workshop training class.

Since that time, she has attended the Barton Training Workshop, tutoring students who have the warning signs of dyslexia and require a different way of processing information.  She is currently tutoring two students.  She admits her understanding of dyslexia was very limited and the training and tutoring has been a learning experience and finds volunteering for the Literacy Council to be very rewarding and time put to good use.  Staff enjoys having her and she says "it is a pleasure working with the two 'Pats' who direct the program".
